Vocabulary

Proportion- an equation you write to show that two ratios are equivalent

Cross Products- Where you multiply the numerator of each ratio by the denominator of the other ratio

Objective

To write, solve and identify proportions by using cross products.

Lesson

Checking a Proportion

3/5 = 12/18 To check to see if the proportions are equivalent, you multiply the 3 times 18= 54 and 5 times 12= 60, because the products are not equal the proportion is not equal.

Solving Proportions

30/12 = ?/18 To find th missing piece, you would multiply to numerator and denominator that you know, then divide the product my the other number.   30 x 18 =540 -:- 12 = 45 so the missing numerator is 45
