To multiply and find the percent of a number.
Lesson
To find the percent of a number
a.) Change the percent to a fraction and multiply by the number.
25% of 40= 1/4 x 40= 10
b.) Change the percent to a decimal and multiply by the number.
75% of 60 = .75 x 60 = 45
Discount
To find the discount, you need to find the % of the number and then subtract that amount from the original number.
A book is $19.95 but there is a 20% discount.
20% of 19.95 = .20 x 19.95 = 3.99 , 19.95 x 3.99 = 15.96
Sales Tax
To find the sales tax, you need to find the % of the number and then add that amount to the orifinal number.
A price of a cat toy is $9.50/ Find the cost with a sales tax of 8%
8% of 9.50 = .08 x 9.50 = .76, 9.50 + 0.76 = 10.26
